About Us

Reimagining Museums is an initiative that reimagines museums as spaces for dialogue and collective imagination. By weaving tales inspired by science museums’ collections, it explores the connections between technology, society, and everyday life. Through collaboration with researchers, museum professionals, and storytellers, the project highlights how scientific progress continues to shape our modern history, our cities, and our daily experiences.

These tales are presented in two complementary formats:

  1.  Immersive audio tales, which can be experienced while wandering inside the museum or from anywhere in the world, and
  2. Written blog posts, offering deeper insights and multidisciplinary reflections on the same stories.

Reimagining Museums seeks to transform how audiences engage with science museums—turning them into spaces of curiosity, reflection, and participation. The project bridges the gap between natural and social sciences, challenging technological solutionism by emphasising the human, urban, and cultural dimensions of scientific advancement.

The first collection of tales was developed around the Egyptian Railway Museum, uncovering narratives of invention, labour, and transformation. Building on this foundation, new tales are now being created for the Suez Canal Museum, further expanding the project’s exploration of science, technology, and society in Egypt. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the project brings together local communities, researchers, and museum experts to co-create these narratives. At its heart, Reimagining Museums aspires to make science museums more inclusive and resonant with public life—inviting people to listen, read, and reflect on how science has shaped, and continues to shape, the world we live in.

The project began with the support of the Tandem Amwaj Programme, a civil society-led initiative. The project is currently managed and operates under the legal umbrella of Collective Routes, a registered Limited Liability Company (LLC) in Egypt.
